“Joy Filled” became a bit of a life motto for me after battling depression a few different times in my life, most recently being after the birth of my firstborn son. His birth was simultaneously beautiful and filled with trauma, which led to postpartum depression, anxiety, and anger. I wasn’t fully equipped to handle all of that as a new mama, if I’m being honest.
I didn’t know that I should probably have been in therapy after a traumatic delivery, I didn’t know the warning signs of PPD or PPA, and I thought everything I was experiencing was just.. normal for a new mom.
As the Lord brought me out of postpartum depression through the birth of our baby girl just 16 months later, I started to think about what was different about my postpartum experience the second time around.
Are there things I’m prioritizing differently? What was I neglecting before? The more I thought about this and examined my own life, the more I began to realize that there are four key components of a Joy Filled life.
MAIN POINTS
The Joy Filled Four:
- Connection
- Care
- Creativity
- Community
